Project 2
OkkAY, so the task is to digitally matte paint a set/location, if you can believe it.
First off, we come up with 3 different places and give it a quick lil backstory and do a lil sketch of how they would look like.

Fig 1 - Prison Island

Azkaban (Harry Potter series) was probably the inspiration behind this one. Impel Down (One Piece series), too, because I'm a weeb. I think I've also just recently watched Pixar's Luca, and I find the Italian town that was used as reference in that movie was really unique --- in a way that they are seemingly built on top of one another, like a cluster. It looked chaotic, and although the town is very colorful, I thought I could turn it gloomy.

Fig 2 - SkyLantis

Inspired by Atlantis (obviously) and the Sky Island (One Piece series again). I think the idea behind this is pretty straight forward. I've always liked this myth of Atlantis, but to spice it up a little, I made it so that the city is in the sky instead.

Fig 3 - Willow Wisps

I like how willow trees look. They're so sad and eerie, but also very whimsical. To make this willow forest more interesting, I decided to make woll-o'-wisps as its residents to add to the eerie, whimsy atmosphere. Will-o'-wisps are known for being mischievous and likes to steer people astray. The idea of this forest being a haunted one that calls to unhappy people filled with negativity is also inspired from the very real Aokigahara forest in Japan, famously known as the "su!c!de forest".

I initially wanted to go forward with SkyLantis, because that's the idea I'm most attached too. But if there's anything that Digital Photography had taught me, it's that I ain't never achieving that sky city finish -- not when the environment is supposed to be bright (and therefore I have no way to hide blemishes) --- I tried, tho, and as expected it did not look good. ((I care for your eyesight, so I won't be showing the bad photoshop))

So the next choise is the Prison Island, because to me, that seems more doable.

Prison Island - Final

It looks rough, we can all agree on that. Things could've been blended better with the other elements. Color blending, too. But at the end  of the day, I'm not mad. I'm not happy, but I'm not mad at it, either. This just taught me that I should never try to go for this type of work in the future.
I have the ideas; I just lack the necessary skills to execute.
